Abstract

The K-shell excitation probability PK has been investigated in the collision system 32 MeV S-ions on Ar at very large scattering angles in the region where the kinematic maximum of 2π-2pσ rotational coupling is expected. For increasing center of mass scattering angle θcm< 90° an increase of PK was observed very similar to the rise of the kinematic peak but no decrease for θcm>90° was found. This result will be explained by a direct excitation process.
