Site Selection for Aquaculture

  • Thomas B. Lawson

Abstract

Selection of a suitable site for an aquaculture venture determines facility construction costs and strongly influences the ultimate success of the resulting aquaculture enterprise. A number of factors must be considered when selecting a site. These factors should be included in a comprehensive site analysis. Kövári (1984) groups site selection factors into three broad categories: (1) ecological; (2) biological; and (3) economic and social. These and a fourth category, legal matters, are discussed in this chapter.
