Subcritical Rotating Channel Flow Across a Ridge
Chapter
Abstract
The flow of an inviscous rotating fluid over a ridge in a channel of constant width is considered. The channel width is of the same order or less than the Rossby radius of deformation and the depth varies in the downstream direction. The flow is subcritical and the streamlines are developed from the concept of potential vorticity conservation. Flow separation and stagnant regions may appear and some laboratory experiments were carried out, which demonstrate these features.
