Introduction

Abstract

The workshop opened with Chancellor Norman Parker welcoming the participants to the University of Illinois, both at the Medical Center and at the Chicago Circle. He indicated plans for the new Circle Campus, stressed his support of the Bioengineering Program, and was pleased to have Biomaterials discussed in this environment. Doctor Lawrence Stark also welcomed the participants and acknowledged financial support for the workshop from the University of Illinois, the Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Hospital, the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, and the Whittaker Corporation.
