Auxin-Induced Gene Expression During Rooting of Loblolly Pine Stem Cuttings
Chapter
Abstract
Vegetative propagation is becoming an important tool for mass producing elite genotypes to establish forest plantations. A number of vegetative propagation techniques have been researched, but at the present time, rooting stem cuttings is the method that is most commonly employed in operational programs (Ritchie, 1994). In many tree species, especially conifers, operational use of rooted stem cuttings is limited by maturation. The time required to field test individual trees precludes propagation of those trees, because rooting ability declines with age of the donor plant (Hackett, 1988).
