Abstract

As outlined in Chapter 5, it is crucial to evaluate the factors that may be maintaining the child’s pain behaviors as well as the factors that may be maintaining the parents’ behaviors in their interaction with their child. We will consider the evaluation of parental behaviors and children’s behavior separately, since different assessment strategies may be needed. We will begin with an examination of the contingencies that may maintain the child’s pain behaviors.
