Abstract

Receptaculitid bodies are characterized by the tightly joined heads of meroms and the arrangement of meroms into a compact and, in many taxa, a “double-walled” body. In this and the next chapter we describe the morphology of Fisherites orbis in preparation for the attempted comparative reduction of receptaculitids to an extant or fossil group (Chapter VI).
