Arterial Hypertension (AH) and Microalbuminuria (MA) in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Chapter
Abstract
Microalbuminuria (MA) is an abnormal increase of the albumin urinary excretion rate ranging from 20 to 200 mcg/min (30–300 mg/24 hr) in absence of macroproteinuria as commonly measured by “Albustix” test (1). MA is frequently associated to arterial hypertension (AH)(2); furthermore it is not well defined whether AH is causative factor or a consequence of kidney disease and, in addition, if MA and AH could be linked to a common event (3). Aim of the study is to evaluate whether AH could 1) play a pathogenetic role on MA occurrence and consequently 2) represent a risk factor for MA.
