Abstract

Colour constancy and the appearance of surfaces in natural scenes is dependent on the presence of extended surrounds. Surface colours in general, and dark colours like black, grey, brown, and olive, are only perceived with brighter surrounds, and are therefore often called ‘related’ colours.
