Electromagnetic and Mesonic Cherenkov Effects in Nuclear Media
Chapter
Abstract
In order to obtain Cherenkov—like radiation three general conditions have to be fulfilled. (i) Each incident particle must be coupled to a specific radiation field, e. g. (π, ŋ, K etc.)—mesonic pseudoscalar fields, (p, ω, K* etc.)—vector mesonic fields, (γ, “weak bosons” etc.)—fields; (ii) each type of radiation field must be modified inside the medium via multiple scattering from the constituents; and (iii) each incident particle—source must be moving in the medium with a velocity higher than the phase velocity of a given radiation field inside this medium.
