Demography in Germany at the Beginning of the Twentieth Century in the Light of Der Deutsche Volkswirt

Abstract

“Der Deutsche Volkswirt” published regularly governmental data on statistical results of the population and its development. When the magazine was independent during the years 1926–1932, it published some academic essays on population development, which dealt with statistical issues. In 1930, Ernst Kahn calculated his own model of future population development in Germany and discussed future structural changes in different economic fields. In the following, it will be examined to what extent Kahn’s essay reflects the academic discussions in Germany at that time.
