Results of the Standardization and Centralization of Stone Analysis in the German Democratic Republic
Chapter
Abstract
The analysis of stones is essential in the study of the genesis and treatment of urolithiasis. However, qualitative chemical analysis of the stone components is not sufficient for this purpose. In the GDR, X-ray diffraction has been developed as a standardized method for semi-quantitative stone analysis. This is performed in special district-controlled laboratories. Each stone is analysed in its entirety or more thoroughly in terms of its nucleus and shells.
