Abstract

The lipid profile in neonates receiving an intravenous infusion of intralipid during the first week of life was studied. Twenty infants of mean gestational age 34 weeks (28–40) and mean birth weight 2243 grams (1000–3800) were studied. A 10% solution of intralipid was infused at a dosage of 4 k/Kg over a four-hour period. The remainder of the caloric intake was supplied by an aminoacid and glucose solution. All fluids were given by scalp vein.
