Abstract

In this paper no attempt will be made to treat all the basic principles of water and electrolyte metabolism, or to make a complete exposition. For this purpose, reference must be made to available textbooks.1 We will, instead, focus the attention on some aspects of the matter which are less frequently emphasized and will indicate some rules of thumb that should be helpful for clinicians.
