A 72-Month Experience with the ST. JUDE MEDICAL® Prosthesis at the Tucson Medical Center

  • Christopher T. Maloney

Abstract

Early in vitro studies of the ST. JUDE MEDICAL® valve prosthesis demonstrated superior hemodynamic and mechanical characteristics. We were intrigued with these findings, primarily because of the obvious hemodynamic disadvantages of the other valves available at that time. Since January 1978 the ST. JUDE MEDICAL prosthesis has been our valve of choice, although other mechanical and tissue valves have been widely used, mainly due to patient and physician request.
