Abstract
The external centerless grinder is a machine composed of an abrasive grinding wheel, a regulating wheel (usually abrasive), and a work support blade, usually surfaced with tungsten carbide. The purpose of the grinding wheel is to remove the metal and impart rotation to the work-piece. The function of the regulating wheel is to hold the part against the grinding wheel, cut pressure, and control the rotation. The purpose of the work support blade is to provide vertical support to the workpiece and to establish the proper support geometry necessary for producing part roundness (See Fig. 8.1).
