Cholesterol Ester Transfer Protein, Characterization of Monoclonal Antibodies against the Human Antigen
Chapter
Abstract
Early work by Rehnborg and Nichols (1) showed that upon incubation of normolipemic plasma, cholesteryl ester (CE) concentration increased in VLDL, LDL and HDL whereas triglycerides (TG) concentration decreased in VLDL and increased in LDL and HDL. These experiments (1,2) were the first to document CE transfer between lipoproteins but the concept was really developed with the demonstration by Zilversmit et al (3) that the d > 1.21 g/ml fraction contained a protein that catalysed CE transfer between lipoproteins, a protein which is now identified as cholesterolester transfer protein (CETP) and which transfers CE and TG between lipoproteins.
