Abstract
Poor sampling design has been perhaps the most serious defect in studies of secondary production. An excellent review of the problem is given by Prepas and Rigler (1978). The Lanao sampling was specifically designed to avoid any serious weaknesses in the primary data base which might greatly reduce the scope for data interpretation.
