The Primary Structure Determination of Ribosomal Proteins by Combined Amino Acid and Nucleotide Sequencing

Abstract

The primary structures of almost all of the 53 proteins present in the E. coli ribosome have now been completely determined (1). It was especially difficult to establish the structures of the proteins with molecular weight between 20,000 and 60,000 because of the small amounts of protein available and the complexity of the peptide mixtures.
