Abstract

The intraocular transplantation technique has served as a most useful tool in studies of development of isolated brain tissue (see e.g., May 1930, 1945, Chatagnon 1952). We have utilized this technique for investigation of regulatory mechanisms involved with neuronal growth and plasticity. Using the iris of the recipient as the target tissue for nerve fiber outgrowth from neurons grafted to the anterior chamber of the eye, monoamine (MA) neurons can be fully visualized with Falck-Hillarp fluorescence histochemistry (Falck et al. 1962, Corrodi and Jonsson 1967).
