Abstract
Fifteen standard bands have been defined in this system (Table 1, Fig. 1). Seven are relatively DR-specific and polymorphic (Tables 2 and 3). DNA samples differ in both number and intensity of bands; for example; DR5 DNAs show no characteristic, intense bands, whereas DR 4 DNAs are associated with bands 1,4, and 8. Table 4 shows the correlation between the std. bands and DR-types. Table 3 shows that a few DR types can be assigned on the basis of RFLPs; for example, bands 2 and 6 unambiguously define DR types 1 and 2, respectively. However, some DR specificities share patterns (DR 4 and DR 7 DNAs share bands 1, 4, and 6) and others have more than one pattern; for example, not all DR 3 DNAs have bands 11 and 14. Kpn polymorphisms may have limited applicability in DR typing by RFLP analysis.
