The Hydrodynamics of Non-Newtonian Fluids. II

  • R. S. Rivlin

Abstract

In part I of this series of papers (1), a general hydrodynamic theory for a visco-inelastic incompressible, non-Newtonian fluid has been formulated. The most general stress—strain-velocity relations which can be obeyed by such a fluid are derived on the assumption that the fluid is isotropic when in a state of rest. In this paper, we shall apply the results of the previous one to the problem of the flow of a column of this non-Newtonian fluid through a uniform tube of circular cross-section, under a constant pressure head. Gravitational forces acting on the fluid will be neglected.
