Abstract

Successful surgical treatment of arterial aneurysms by extirpation or exclusion with subsequent graft interposition was not reported before the early twentieth century. Even in the pre-Christian era aneurysmal vascular dilatation was observed; Galen described expansive pulsation as the principal symptom of aneurysms.
