Abstract
The situation with regard to surface water pollution incidents arising from industrial, agricultural and sewage related sources within the UK is approaching the critical point. The number of such incidents has been increasing at a rate of between 6% and 7% per annum since the early 1980s, without any sign of abatement in the annual rate.
