Configuring Your Environment
PHP was designed and created to generate dynamic content injected into HTML documents or generate complete HTML documents that are served by a web server. The web server is typically a physical server connected to the Internet or a virtual or shared server in a data center. As a developer, you will also require a local environment used for development and testing of the web pages you are developing before they are deployed to the server. Because PHP is available on a large number of systems and supports a large number of web servers, it will not be possible to cover all possible combinations in a single chapter, but we can cover some of the most common configurations.
