Abstract

More than 40 years ago, Gordon Moore, the cofounder of Intel Corporation, published a paper that predicted the number of transistors on an integrated circuit would double every 18 months. Moore’s prediction also implied that computer hardware performance would double and that the cost would decline every 18 months. This became known as Moore’s Law, which still roughly holds true today (though processing power now doubles about every two years).
