Suggest Boxes and Full Text Search

Abstract

In this chapter, we’ll examine how we hook up a suggest box (SuggestBox) to the My Rankings page to allow users to add schools to their lists by typing in a few characters of the name and picking the school from a list of schools that begin with those characters. We’ll start with a simple server-side implementation of this functionality using basic SQL commands, and then we’ll install a full text search engine to give us the behavior and performance that we’re looking for.
