The Case for International Cooperation as a Strategy to Achieve Crop Biosecurity
The processes of production and distribution of food, feed and fibre to the world’s populace are changing dramatically, as agricultural products once unknown outside of a given region are becoming familiar offerings in community markets around the globe. Trade of such commodities is critical also to the economic well-being of most nations. The biosecurity of these products, therefore, is an international concern that can be assured only by multi-national cooperation and vigilance. Sharing of information, technological advances, and research initiatives across national boundaries will facilitate our ability to provide for healthy and safe products for the people of all nations.
