Organic Marine Aerosol: State-of-the-Art and New Findings

The present work reviews the state of knowledge on organic marine aerosol, starting with an historic overview of the topic from the early 1970s to the most recent years. New results from the MAP-EU project are then reported, showing the main features of the organic fraction, and illustrating how primary and secondary components of marine aerosols can be distinguished by means of chemical analysis. The findings also have potential implications for the atmospheric chemistry of aerosol particles and clouds.
