Transformation–Restabilization: Becoming and Being an Assistant Principal

Abstract

 Chapter 8describes the final epicycle of Transformation–Restabilization. At this point in their transition, assistant principals are fully incorporated into the administrative and school culture and have developed the capacity to perform their role. Becoming and being an assistant principal is an interactive process of negotiation, construction, and maintenance which requires fundamental shifts in identity, values, perception, and behaviors. Key aspects of this process entail distancing from teaching and developing the cognitive, emotional, and social capacity to balance their ongoing leadership and management challenges.
