Abstract
The theory is concerned to explain the politics of nationalism and ethnicity, that is,
- 1.
The positive demand for political power for the nation, through national self-determination or other means. Autonomy or statehood is the end.
- 2.
The negative reaction against rule by ‘foreigners’, which is seen as involving domination or exclusion and other forms of discrimination.
