Abstract

From the previous chapter, it is apparent that the existing literature can inform us rather well about the various influences on health and their relative importance. Given this knowledge, why is it then that developing countries are so often frustrated in their drive towards health for all? One basic answer is that the state of the economy and the way the economy is organized constrain the desired changes. In order to come to grips with the interactions between the economy and health, we construct a simple prototype model of linkages: see Figure 2.1.
