Abstract

This chapter analyzes the performance of the agricultural sector since independence. It begins with a look at the resources available to the agricultural sector and the organization of agriculture. It then examines the growth of agricultural production and the factors behind it. Next the implications of growth for the distribution of income are discussed. Finally, an analysis is made of public policy towards the agricultural sector.
