Abstract
The physical properties of the solid state both of drugs and adjuvants are of considerable interest as they can affect both the production of dosage forms and the biological behaviour of the finished form. The nature of the crystalline form of a drug substance may affect its stability in the solid state, its flow properties and its biological availability, the last mainly through the effect of crystal properties on dissolution rate. It is with this latter subject that we shall deal first, and then proceed to other properties of the solid state of importance in production and formulation.
