Contingency Planning

Abstract

When suddenly faced with a kidnap or other extortion crisis in which lives and millions of pounds may be at stake, management can become obsessed and diverted from the pursuit of its commercial objective. This diversion can be greatly reduced with sound contingency planning and the prior establishment of a crisis management organization. The aims of contingency planning and crisis management are:
  1. (a)

    to preserve lives;

  2. (b)

    to resolve the crisis with minimum loss of assets;

  3. (c)

    to minimize disruption of commercial operations.
