Abstract
Although the literature is quite extensive, relatively few physiological studies have been carried out under field conditions and almost all of our basic knowledge is from the Asian deepwater rices. The growth and development of the deepwater rice plant was reviewed by Vergara (1985). Information on the glaberrimas of Africa is given in Chapter 20.
