Energy Changes in Chemistry

Abstract

Energy can be neither created nor destroyed, but it can be converted from one form to another. For example, the chemical energy stored up in petrol can be converted to heat energy and kinetic energy (energy associated with movement) in a car engine. Another important energy conversion is the changing of solar energy (energy from the sun) into chemical energy in photosynthesis (see Section 9.4).
