First Aid Requirements
These regulations, comprising an approved code of practice with guidance notes for first aid at work, came into force in 1982, replacing the former multiple, rigid, legislative requirements with a single set of more flexible regulations and a code of practice which, with very few exceptions, applies to all those at work, including for the first time hotel and school staff and the self-employed. (An anomaly is the absence of first aid cover for school children and students.) A code of practice is not legally binding, but is regarded by the Courts as relevant when there is a failure to comply with a provision of the regulations.
