Abstract

In one sense ‘sex’ is one of the most widely discussed topics in present-day society. Sexual images, allusions and comments fill our information media, children can view soft porn video tapes and even ‘video nasties’ and the effect of all of this on the present generation of school-age children has yet to be assessed. The public interest in sexual matters has been accompanied by a dramatic rise in the number of people who are prepared to declare themselves as experts in this area. Indeed, most people could be forgiven for sometimes thinking that there are as many ‘sexperts’ as there are sex problems!
