Abstract

Originally serialised under the title ‘Sargon, King of Kings’, Christ-ina Alberta’s Father was published (by the then recently established firm of Jonathan Cape) in 1925. Wells was nearly sixty. For ten years and more he had been preoccupied with the immense issues arising from the war and reconstruction; he had devoted enormous energy to the writing of The Outline of History and A Short History of the World; he was busily engaged on all manner of literary, political and educational projects. Now in the mid-1920s he was affected by a phase of restlessness and discontent.
