Abstract

Operating a supply chain in an emerging economy is especially challenging, given the diverse needs of the customer bases, the evolving infrastructure, and the operational uncertainties in the field. But CEMEX, a company in a very traditional industry - cement - shows that it is possible to use information technologies, innovative processes, human resource and cultural developments to create a highly efficient supply chain. CEMEX was able to test their new concepts and practices in a very challenging supply and demand environment of Mexico, and eventually applied them worldwide. This chapter describes how CEMEX transformed its cement supply chain from end-to-end, leading to world class business performance.
