Abstract
A few months after the Gustavus speech, Clevite gave up on Shockley Semiconductor and sold it to International Telephone & Telegraph, which moved it to Florida; when IT&T couldn’t sell it, they killed it. That freed Shockley to pursue a career different from the one he had planned.
