Invited Talk: A Software Engineering Program of Lasting Value (Abstract)
Engineering educators have long recognised that it is their obligation to prepare students for a professional career that may last 40 years in rapidly changing fields. Good engineering educators know that they must focus on fundamental ideas and teach students how to apply those ideas. Thus, although I studied Electrical Engineering at a time when semiconductor research was considered useless theory by many of my teachers, most of my textbooks are still valid and still useful. In contrast, most of the computer books on my shelves are out-of-date and irrelevant.
