Semi-classical description of elastic and inelastic heavy ion scattering
Session B Quantitative Interpretation of Transfer Reactions Near the Coulomb Barrier

Abstract
A semi-classical approximation derived from Feynman's path-integral representation of the S-matrix is applied for the case of elastic and inelastic heavy ion scattering. The method has been modified to allow for complex potentials and can be extended readily for more complicated reactions. Comparison of the calculated elastic and inelastic cross-sections as well as the individual phase shifts with the same quantities obtained quantum-mechanically, demonstrates the quantitative power of the method.
