Extended Fe Simulations of Crack Growth in Layered and Functionally Graded Materials

In this work we address some computational issues concerning failure analysis of layered and functionally graded materials (FGMs). The gradual variation of the mechanical properties of FGMs, unlike the abrupt change encountered in layered ones, is known to improve the failure performance.
