Abstract

Catalysis plays a key role in converting natural gas into chemicals. It is increasingly being involved in the use of natural gas in the energy sector. Catalytic combustion, chemical recuperation, flue gas cleaning and fuel cells are examples from the power industry. The indirect conversion via syngas is the most feasible route for production of commodity chemicals such as ammonia and methanol. Chemical conversion of natural gas may become important for providing transportation fuels and for the transition to a hydrogen economy.
