Docmem — Mobile Access to Electronic Health Records
DOCMEM is a European R&D project conducted between July 2001 and June 2003 with the co-funding of the European Union in the frame of the IST Programme (Project IST-2000-25318).
It targets ambulatory and in-hospital medical doctors and offered them an advanced interactive environment for getting a ubiquitous, permanent and intelligent access to patients' medical files. In spite of common requirements, hospital and ambulatory contexts differ, for instance by the healthcare information system they use. A hospital practitioner interfaces with the always-operating information system of his hospital department, whereas an ambulatory practitioner may need to copy on a mobile device the data from information system lying on his PC.
The present chapter presents first the research and development dimension of the project, the applications adapted to the two healthcare contexts of in-hospital and ambulatory practices, and finally their validation through pilot projects.
