Abstract
Recently, there have been growing interests toward Open Educational Resources (OERs) in the field of education. OER can be defined as any set of educational materials that are distributed in an open format which can be accessed by anyone freely without cost. This chapter focuses on introducing how OERs are being implemented in Korea. The chapter explores the current state of OER in Korea in terms of history, contextual factors, and resources. While emerging of OER is rather a new phenomenon, history suggests that there have been similar platforms that were available from the early 80s. With recent advancements of information and communication technologies, OERs have grown exponentially fuelled by government-driven initiatives. Among several factors that have influenced OER in Korea, we explore technological aspects, policy-driven implementations, copyright issues, and pedagogical considerations. A list of platforms and resources that are currently available is presented as well.
