Abstract
After underground excavations, a stress field develops that deviates from the original field. The extent of deviation depends on both the profile and size of the excavation. To calculate stability during the excavation, it is crucial to consider the cross-sectional shape and area of the cavity. It is assumed that these parameters are only partly incorporated into the calculation of lateral pressure in the cavity.
