Abstract
In this paper, an attempt has been made to study the influence of 20, 30 and 40% of low-density shredded polyethylene (LDSP) as partial replacement of fine aggregates (FA) in concrete. The properties of the above type of concrete has been compared with the properties of M30 grade concrete with reference to workability, compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength. From the test results, it can be seen that replacement of FA by 20% of LDSP gives 3% increment in the tensile strength and 4% increment in the flexural strength whereas compressive strength was comparable with normal concrete. 30% replacement of FA gives 17% increment in the tensile strength and 20% increment in the flexural strength but with reduced compressive strength. This study is expected to provide a suitable alternative to normal concrete both in economic and environmental requirements.
